The International Olympic Committee awarded Salt Lake City the 2034 Winter Games and the French Alps the 2030 Winter Games on Wednesday.
The announcement ended a lengthy process that will see Utah’s capital city back on the world stage three decades after it last hosted the games.
Salt Lake City was the only city under consideration by the IOC, as concerns about the high costs of putting on a three-week showcase and other factors caused other cities not to bid. The French bid was also the only one for the 2030 games.
